THE SURROUNDING AREA

Eating Out

Both Almunecar and La Herradura offer a wide selection of restaurants of varying categories and styles. Most are located on the beach (chiringuitos) or near the beach fronts.

Traditional local dishes, especially fish, are well represented on the menus, usually along with international favourites. Some restaurants specialise in regional or foreign cooking including Chinese and Indian.

Most places offer an economical menu of the day 'Menu del Dia' as an option.

La Herradura

Also part of the Almunecar municipality is the pretty village and horseshoe-shaped bay of La Herradura with a superb long beach and a large selection of chiringuitos (or beach bars). There are also a number of watersports clubs.

The beautiful bay of La Herradura is the envy of Almunecar and one of the prettiest bays along the south coast of Spain, and boasts a 2 km long sand beach.

The village presents a typical aspect of whitewashed buildings climbing the gentle slopes of a small hill leading up from the beach.

Cerro Gordo

Marking the western boundary of the municipality, the huge promontory of Cerro Gordo stands alongside the bay of La Herradura. It has been declared a municipal park that's protected against development. A short hike rewards walkers with magnificent views.
